I kid you not. As reported by the BBC, they're talking about re-routing flights back to the old airport. Because of Ghosts.

In other news, I've got my updated tickets, so I'm due to be leaving on Thursday evening. Top thing of the day (other than the ghosts), is:
I leave Fiji at 10pm on the 14th August (Ed's birthday, as it happens). I arrive in LA, hang about for a few hours, get on another plane, fly to San Francisco, and arrive there at 5.05pm on the 14th August.
That's 5 hours earlier the same day!
That's a pretty quick plane!
Will.
Feeling things are a little surreal, in Manchester, UK.
P.S. I've just heard they've cancelled the strike. Still leaving on thursday though, cos I've made my plans now :-/

Proper fodder
Been back to see the folks this weekend, and overdosed on some rite proper food - black pudding and lancashire hotpot at the Three Fishes. Awesome. Now, I can leave.
Back to the packing...

Will doesn't wander anywhere
The cabin crew branch of the Transport and General Workers Union has notified British Airways that it plans to strike on Tuesday 30 January and Wednesday 31 January.
That'll be the day I was supposed to fly to bangkok, then. And the day after.
I'm now booked into a flight on thursday.
This sucks.
Will.
Very much still in Manchester
edit: I've had to put my counter back by 2 days. Harrumph!

Last weekend in Manchester
My tickets arrived today - they look like a cheque book!
Having a silly time this week. First there was beer festival fun on wednesday, which was great.
Then I was supposed to go to Sheffield to see crazy scientist bod Colin Pillinger talk about the Beagle 2 last night, but armageddon put paid to that idea - the whole city ground to a halt in crazy winds, and there was no way of getting anywhere. Cars and lorrys piled up everywhere, no trains, buses gridlocked - madness! Tom* and I found solstice in a pub instead.
Not sure about tonight yet, but tomorrow's my leaving do - going to a great indian in town then some beerage. I thought it was going to be quite small, but last count I think we've got about 16-17 people coming :)
Last weekend in Manchester feels quite strange though. I'm pretty tired & could do with taking it easy, but that'd hardly be fitting now, would it? I'll have plenty of time to rest soon...

p.s. Today's quote of the day:
"I wanna hang a map of the world in my house. Then I'm gonna put pins into all the locations that I've traveled to. But first, I'm gonna have to travel to the top two corners of the map so it won't fall down."

It's exciting, I tell you!
Alright, so you might not think it's that exciting...
... but I've got a notebook! And it's dead good!
Roni* told me about Moleskine notebooks at christmas, and Stanfords have just got them back in stock, with barely a week to spare.
I'm gonna take lots of photos and all that, but that's mostly for other people. Random stuff I write in my notebook is gonna be entirely selfishly mine, which is why I'm getting overly excited.
I'll have more interesting** things to talk about when I've actually left - promise!
Will.
(Yeah, still Manchester)
* Roni: My brother Ben's significantly better significant other***
** well, marginally more interesting, anyhow
***Actually, Ben's been pretty damnedly great this week himself - cheers benny!

The Vague Plan
- January 30th - Fly to Bangkok
- Feb, March, April - Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia
- Start of May - head overland down Malaysia to Singapore
- End of May - Bali, Lombok, surrounding islands
- June - From Caines, head down east coast of Oz to Melbourne
- July - Up through New Zealand (from Christchurch to Auckland)
- Start of August - Fiji (political situation permitting)
- End of August - California for a couple of weeks
- September to January - Mexico & Central America, probably with a month in Peru
Which sounds fun, to me. The vague direction is pretty much fixed because I can't change the flight route, but I can change the dates of the flights quite easily.
In other news, I got a cryptic text off Ed* asking where I'd be in March, which I'm taking to mean he might head over to S.E. Asia. Do it!
*Ed: an ex-BBC hack & fellow Prestonian who's travelling round Oz
Will.
Still in Manchester - only 2 weeks left!

I have a passport! With a stamp!
Despite the best efforts of the royal mail (the guy at the post office forgot to put the postage paid stamp on my special delivery envelope), my passport got to birmingham and came back with a Thai stamp in it.
I'm not letting it back out of my sight for 3 weeks.

It was supposed to be so eeeeasy
Spot the mistake:
Anyhow, Hello World. Some of you seem keen on keeping up with my travels, so I'm gonna write every now and then on here, cos myspace sucks as a blog. Hi to the Bristol folks who persuaded me to do something online, and nice one for the new years party :)
More later,
Will.
Manchester, England.
- Save up
- Buy round the world ticket with missus
- Quit job
- Break up with missus
- Go travelling with... oh.
